Interview with Elfenberg

“The many legends of Elfenberg tell of a duo whom live beneath the hidden and mythical place known as the Ivory Mountains. For centuries all living creatures have protected and prayed to this majestic monument when in need of wisdom and guidance. Although peace and prosperity thrive the mountains, darkness is always lurking afar. For, at the dawn of every black moon, the nightfall will start to consume all in it’s path. It’s at these times that nature calls upon its protectors, to restore the vibrant light of these sacred lands. This time the fate rests in the hands of the duo, a journey yet to be written.”

We caught up with the producer duo to get some insights from the Swedish musicians:

Hello you two. First of all thanks a lot for getting in touch with us. I am very happy you managed to find your time for us. How are you doing today?
Aloha, we’re super! We’re currently working on a bunch of remixes that will see the day in the next coming months.

To those not familiar with you, how would you describe your sound?
Organic and versatile.

What are the albums and artists that have influenced you the most?
That’s a tough one. We’re daily inspired by like-minded artists, cultures and countries that we’ve visit. We listen to all kinds of genres. We both comes from a background with hiphop and rock n roll.

What other artists do you really like at the moment and why?

Dubspeeka
Trikk
Nicola Cruz

Simply because they’re all amazing producers. Each with their own awesome sound that we easily can apply to all our sets.

We realized that you like to produce with ambient soundscapes. You create a very interesting and unique athmosphere. What are some of the key pieces of gear you use to write your tracks in the studio? Or do you prefer to use software and plug ins?
We’re all software. We have a couple of midi keyboards, other than that we simply run the show using Ableton on an old PC with a pair of pioneer monitors.

Has your arsenal of equipment changed much since you first started?
Not more than the fact that we have this ridiculously large collection of samples now a days.

Do you enjoy playing to an audience or working in the studio?
Definitely both, when you’re in the studio and working on something fresh you can’t wait to play it in front of an audience. And the other way around. All kinds of creative idea’s pops up in your head when you’re behind the decks and that makes you eager to get back in to the studio again.

If we gave you the budget to put a line-up together for a mini fest, who would you book and where would you play?
Somewhere in the jungle, surrounded by beautiful nature and people. We’d have the likes of YokoO and Damian Lazarus. Hopefully we can squeeze in Elfenberg there as well.

If you weren’t a musician what would you be?
To be honest, not a clue.

There is one more questions I would like you to ask about the near future. Do you have any information regarding upcoming releases, projects, DJ mixes or collaborations in the pipeline that you would like to tell us about?
As mentioned before we are currently knee deep in remixes, our next EP however, will be released on ‘Coss‘ label Metanoia 16th of april, make sure to check that out folks!
Listen to Elfenberg on The Playground’s YouTube channel. Many thanks for sharing!

After understanding the two artists a little more, we would like to refer to their social Networks. Follow the two in the future, stay in tune and don’t ever miss a new release.
