Previously listed on several Spotify New Music Friday playlists with her hit ‘Something Good’, Manchester-based singer Ellysse Mason has released our latest synth obsession, single ‘I Don’t Wanna Dance’ which now features a quirky music video to compliment the artist’s style. ‘I Don’t wanna dance’ will make you want to dance with its catchy hooks and 80’s soundscapes.

Describe a pivotal music moment for you in your favourite film, television show, brand partnership etc. Has this influenced any of your own compositions?

When John Cusack is holding up a boom box in Say Anything playing Peter Gabriel. That song gives me the feels and it’s inspired me to recreate that in my own work.

How did you become drawn towards making retro/synthwave music?

It feels like it’s a sound that’s always been around in my life And I knew I wanted to head down a more electric route, so I naturally just started writing for my songs to be produced in that way!

What does your current software/hardware setup currently consist of?

Mostly an electric guitar, a nice synth,  logic, and a lot of reverb!

Outside of music, what inspires you?

Usually small unexpected moments of nostalgia

What kind of relationship do you have with the internet? How does this inform your artistic expression?

I’m on my phone way too much, it’s really nice to have a break sometimes. The older I get the more draining the internet can become, but sometimes it’s hard to pull away when it’s part of being a musician.

As a performer or as a member of the audience, what single show has been the most memorable for you?

When I went to see Gabrielle Aplin at the Deaf Institue in Manchester around five years ago and I said to my friend that one day I’d love to play there, and then 2 years ago I sold it out!

What can we expect from you in the near future? Any upcoming projects or gigs in the pipeline that you would like to tell us about?

Yes! I have another single on the way! As for gigs… I’m playing a cool festival in Oslo, Norway next June called Party In The Park… But nothing recently I’m afraid.
