Pocket Lint, the project by Mark Heffernan, is set to release the single ‘Wunderkammer’ on June 26, 2026. Heffernan, who studied at London’s Guitar Institute in 1999 and 2000, shifted early from technical rigidity to a process rooted in instinct and emotion. After a lengthy hiatus, he returned to music in 2020, revisiting material from his former band before founding Pocket Lint, following a brief detour into amethyst cameo carving. Drawing on influences from David Bowie, Roxy Music, Soft Cell, The Human League, Japan, Magazine, and Ryuichi Sakamoto, as well as the romantic lyricism of Shelley and Coleridge, Heffernan has shaped a sound defined by narrative and atmosphere. His album Gallery was named Bandcamp’s New & Notable, while the single ‘Cyanometer’ earned acclaim from Moonbuilding Zine.

‘Wunderkammer’ draws on the German tradition of the cabinet of curiosities, transforming the track into a sonic museum of the strange, beautiful, and emotionally charged. Heffernan’s creative process was informed by museums, galleries, lost artefacts, literature, and historical fragments, positioning the single as a curated object in its own right. This approach allowed him to construct a distinct mood and sonic palette, linking atmosphere and narrative throughout. The track weaves shimmering synth textures, noir-tinged lyricism, and experimental arrangements to evoke the sensation of entering a new world of wonder. Pastoral imagery and shades ancient culture define the narrative influence of the track. Upon listening to ‘Wunderkammer‘, you come to realize the listening experience is to understand the hues and shades of your soul- a very intellectual listening experience.

For the first time, Heffernan enlisted outside professionals to refine and expand his sonic vision. Recording with full live performances, layered pedal textures, and evolving analogue soundscapes in place of loops and strict programming, he preserves the single’s intimacy while broadening its scope.

Mark Heffernan had this to say: “A Wunderkammer has no such pretensions. All it hopes to do is present objects that the owner thinks are beautiful or interesting. By doing so, they create a multi-faceted mirror. This is my Wunderkammer.”
