Das Mörtal marks a key moment in his career today with the release of Origins on Lisbon Lux Records, arriving just as electronic music heads gear up for fall sets. The Montréal-based producer, who kicked off his path in Berlin pulling from Steve Moore and Aphex Twin, has built a solid rep in dark synthwave circles. He’s racked up over 28 million Spotify streams, landed global radio spins, and earned nods from outlets like CLASH Magazine, KALTBLUT Magazine, and Brutal Resonance. His track record includes multiple EPs and full-lengths, plus stage time at festivals such as Osheaga, Transmusicales de Rennes, FME, and Meg Festival, where he warmed up crowds for heavyweights like Vitalic, Perturbator, and Carpenter Brut. The lead single ‘Falsche Daten’ already caught fire, backed by YourEDM, Post-Punk, and Decoded Magazine, and it topped the Most Added spots on the NACC Top 200 college chart while popping up on NewRetroWave‘s radar.

Across Origins, Das Mörtal inserts his signature grit with sharper sounds, kicking off with the jagged synth stabs of opener ‘Minimal Chainsaw’ that slice through like industrial tools before easing into tighter rhythms. The Flow of the EP builds to the propulsive, ‘…Now’, keeping things locked in for club play without losing that brooding undercurrent. Standout ‘I Just Want To Hold You (Part I)’ flips Italo disco into a tense, vocoder-drenched slow-burner, its steady kick and wandering arpeggios nodding to Daft Punk and Kavinsky while staying rooted in his occult electro vibe. The video, directed by Stacy Lee, captures that edge with strobe-flashed scenes of leather-clad dancers lost in the beat, matching the track’s pull between restraint and release.
