It’s 1 August 2025, and Shizo van de Sunflower, real name Daniel Blum, just debuted his latest project, the Elektro Punk EP. He’s been shaping electronic music since the 1980s. He kicked off with C64 and since then, his sound evolved into a blend of raw beats and personal depth. In the 90s, he co-founded DeForm2. Later, he released solo tracks like Simple Mind, Drone 1, and Changes. Shizo’s a Dresden legend, hosting 90s Underground House and Techno nights that keep the city buzzing. His music often dives into tough topics like depression, connecting with fans who want more than just a beat.
The Elektro Punk EP packs four tracks of techno-punk fire, nodding to DAF’s gritty legacy with German spoken word vocals. ‘Das Mikrofon’ leads the charge, layering a pounding rhythm with a wild soprano sample from Kristina Sop that fuses EBM with classical vibes. Next, ‘James Bond’ flips the super agent myth into a cheeky, beat-driven jab at macho bravado. ‘Ich war mal Punk’ sharpens the edge, calling out ex-punks who’ve swapped anarchy for crypto wallets and mortgages, while ‘Herz aus Stein’ seals the deal with an instrumental techno surge that’s pure, hypnotic heat.
Shizo van de Sunflower had this to say: “What happens when old punks suddenly invest in crypto and the dream of becoming a super agent meets a cold techno beat? My answer to that is the ‘Elektro Punk EP’, which will see the light of day on 1 August 2025. I was inspired by the raw sounds of DAF’s pioneering era and created four tracks that oscillate between anger, irony and pure dance fever. German lyrics, no compromises. From a soprano sample in ‘Das Mikrofon’ to the self-deprecating pose in ‘James Bond’ to the social dig in ‘Ich war mal Punk’ – this EP wants to be heard and felt”.
